Women's History Month at Campbell's Tavern

Throughout March, Christiana Campbell’s Tavern presents a rotating menu inspired by Martha Washington’s “Mother’s Cookbook.” Each week will feature a historic dish showcasing the ingenuity and resourcefulness of early American women. March 4th-8th
Curried Lobster with Shrimp $48
“Pick the meat of two red lobsters” To half a cup full of white soup and half a cup full of cream, add one dessert spoon of curry; simmer your lobster in the sauce 30 minutes…is very nice sent to table with shrimp off the grid iron

March 11th-15th
To make Clam Fritters $32
“Take 50 small sand clams and stir them into a good frying batter.  Drop by the spoonful into boiling-hot fat and let them fry gently.” Send to table with potatoes fried in the appropriate manner and a good sauce made for fish and one of fish peppers

March 18th-22nd
To Stew Mussels in Tomato gravy $38
“Take 100 mussels and wash them very clean.  Put them in a sauce pan until they open.  Put in some good gravy with pepper and salt.” These are very good served with French bread

March 25th-29th
A clam Chowder with BREAD for mopping $28
“Use half a pound of soda biscuit and 50 clams.  Bake in a deep tin basin, in a hot oven for threequarters of an hour. Serve with good bread”
