Williamsburg Lodge Restaurant earns platinum award for featuring Virginia wines

The Williamsburg Lodge Restaurant, part of Colonial Williamsburg’s Resort Collection, has received a platinum medal from Virginia Wine Lover magazine. The Lodge was one of only 13 restaurants in the state to receive the award at the platinum level and ranked just behind the Vintage Kitchen in Norfolk, which offers 100 Virginia wines on its menu. The Lodge menu includes 45 different Virginia wines by the bottle and 15 Virginia wines by the glass.

“Just as restaurants are moving towards offering local food, we feel they should also be moving towards offering local wine,” says Patrick Evans-Hylton, editor of the magazine. “Our first annual Vino! Virginia award honors restaurants that offer Virginia wines not only by the bottle, but also by the glass so diners can try several.”

“The Williamsburg Lodge reflects its Virginia setting in everything from architectural details to our ‘Virginia Experience’ dinner menu,” says Lodge restaurant manager Charles Birr. “Offering a wide selection of Virginia wines was a natural choice for us.”

In addition to serving Virginia wine in the restaurant, Birr and Lodge executive chef Rhys Lewis conduct “Wine, Wit and Wisdom” every Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Chesapeake Room of the Lodge during which they present a Virginia wine alongside the wines from a featured wine region of the world. The wine tasting always includes a discussion of Virginia wine and the industry’s growth.

The Williamsburg Lodge is located at 310 S. England St. in Williamsburg. The Lodge restaurant serves breakfast and lunch seven days a week and offers a seafood buffet every Friday evening as well as Sunday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For reservations, call 757-229-2141.
