Golden Horseshoe Junior Golf program begins June 21

The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club will conduct its popular junior golf clinic this summer beginning Monday, June 21 at the Green Course driving range and putting green, located at 651 S. England St. in Williamsburg.

Open to girls and boys ages 6 – 16, the program is presented seven Monday afternoons – June 21 and 28, July 5, 12, 19 and 26 and Aug. 2. Youth ages 6 – 10 meet from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m., and ages 11 – 16 meet from 5 to 6 p.m. During the one-hour sessions, head PGA golf professional Jeff Winters and associate PGA professional Greg Lynch provide instruction on rules and etiquette of golf, fundamentals of the golf swing, use of short and long irons and woods and short game topics of pitching, chipping and putting.

Cost of the seven-week clinic is $105 per junior golfer and includes instruction and an awards ceremony and cookout held on the last day of the clinic. For more information or to register, call Jeff Winters at 757-565-8697. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. June 18.

Upon registration, one parent and one junior golfer receive an open invitation to play nine holes on the Spotswood Course for $25 per visit, including cart, on a space-available basis. Called the “best short nine-hole course in the country” by Golf Magazine, the par-31 Spotswood Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and measures 1,865 yards with one 480-yard par 5, par 4s of 285 and 305 yards, and six par-3 holes that vary from 90 to 215 yards.
