CW honors veterans, U.S. military and their families during Veterans Day weekend

Colonial Williamsburg will honor veterans, U.S. military personnel and their families during special Veterans Day weekend programs Nov. 13-14. The celebration includes complimentary admission to the Historic Area for three consecutive days Nov. 11-14, special programs honoring all veterans and active, reserve and retired members of any branch of the Armed Forces, and their families.

Veterans Day weekend will feature special Colonial Williamsburg programs, presentations and processions Saturday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 14. A series of small military encampments, including a French and Indian War camp, a Continental Army camp, a Dragoon (Calvary) Unit and a camp featuring the Rhode Island Regiment—an African-American unit of the Continental Army will be located throughout the Historic Area.

Saturday’s highlight will be the processions that step off from the Capitol and Nassau and Duke of Gloucester Streets at 4 p.m. showcasing the Colonial Williamsburg military programs staff, the Rhode Island Regiment, Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums, and color and honor guards. Participation from active military personnel as well as veteran groups—such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart also are encouraged to participate. The two processions will meet at the Courthouse. Sunday’s 4 p.m. procession will feature early American re-enactors.
