Colonial Williamsburg Partners with James Beard Foundation

On Saturday, November 5, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the James Beard Foundation will launch a partnership championing the rich culinary traditions and innovations of the two organizations. Each Foundation celebrates a milestone in 2012: Colonial Williamsburg commemorates 75 years of unparalleled hospitality, while the James Beard Foundation celebrates 25 years of promoting America’s culinary heritage.

“We are honored and excited to collaborate with such an influential and highly regarded organization within the culinary world,” said John Hallowell, president of Colonial Williamsburg’s Hospitality Group. “Our combined milestones in 2012 make this the ideal time to join forces in celebration of hospitality, cuisine and history.”

The partnership begins with dinner at the James Beard House in New York City, featuring a regionally inspired menu developed by Williamsburg Lodge Executive Chef Rhys Lewis. Next fall, the James Beard Foundation will celebrate its 25th anniversary in Williamsburg, where guests will experience Colonial Williamsburg’s world-class hospitality through accommodations, fine dining, golf, spa and more.

Chef Lewis’ menu for the Nov. 5 dinner in New York showcases a blend of Williamsburg area seasonal favorites. Hors d’oeuvres include crispy Chincoteague Island oysters, toasted brie with truffled Virginia honey and house-smoked pulled pork. The six-course dinner menu includes butternut squash risotto with duck confit, Chesapeake rockfish, braised beef and more. Each course will be paired with a Virginia wine or beer.
