Blue Star Museum Program Offers Free Admission to Art Museums for Active Duty Military and Families from Memorial Day through Labor Day

Colonial Williamsburg joins the Virginia Association of Museums and 1,500 museums across America participating in the Blue Star Museums Program. The initiative is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, in collaboration with the Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense. Launched in the summer of 2010, the program honors active duty military from all branches of the service by providing free museum admission to all active duty military personnel and their immediate families.

The free museum admission begins Memorial Day, May 28, and extends through Labor Day, Sept. 3, and is valid for admission to Bassett Hall, the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum and the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum. Active duty military or their dependents will receive the free admission by presenting their current valid military identification at Colonial Williamsburg’s Visitor Center.

Blue Star Families is a non-profit organization that supports America’s military families from all branches of the service. The goal of the program is for the arts community across America to recognize the contributions of the members of the armed forces and the sacrifices they and their families have made.

Leadership support for the Blue Star Museums Program has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families.

Established in 1926, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is the not-for-profit center for history, citizenship and democracy, encouraging audiences at home and around the world to learn from the past. Purchase of Colonial Williamsburg products and services supports the preservation, research and educational programs of the Foundation. Philanthropic support by individuals, corporations, and foundations benefits the educational mission of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
