Louis W. Moelchert Jr. Elected Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Trustee

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Board has elected Louis W. Moelchert Jr. to serve as a trustee of the Foundation. Moelchert is founder and chairman of Private Advisors, LLC, an investment firm based in Richmond.

“Lou has a deep and abiding respect for the Foundation’s educational endeavors and understands, from his leadership positions at private and public colleges and universities, how expert management of our endowment helps to sustain the mission of connecting history and citizenship,” said Colin Campbell, president and CEO of the Foundation. “We are delighted to welcome Lou as a trustee of Colonial Williamsburg.”

Moelchert founded Private Advisors, LLC in 1997. He previously served as president of Spider Management Company, which provides investment management services for the University of Richmond and other endowments and foundations, and held various administrative positions with the University of Richmond, including vice president for business and finance. He also served as vice chancellor, business affairs for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

“Colonial Williamsburg is one of the most unique and special places in this country,” Moelchert said. “It recreates and preserves not only the physical life of our early years but most importantly the philosophical foundation for our democracy.”

Moelchert serves on the boards of The Nature Conservancy (Virginia Chapter) and the University of Richmond. He previously served on the board of The Commonfund (including four years as chairman) and on the Virginia Retirement System Investment Committee.

In 2005, Moelchert received the University of Richmond’s Trustees Distinguished Service Award and in 1996 he was honored with the Rodney H. Adams Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, Moelchert also holds a master’s degree in accountancy from that institution.
