Colonial Williamsburg Honored by Forbes as one of America’s Best Mid-Size Employers of 2017Forbes this week unveiled its list of America’s Best Mid-Size Employers of 2017 and for the first time ever, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation has been named among the nation’s institutions that are best at making their employees feel “happy, inspired and well-compensated.”
Colonial Williamsburg is listed 69th among the 301 organizations recognized that employ between 1,000 and 5,000 personnel, and placed second among all travel and leisure institutions nationwide. It was nestled between the consulting firm McKinsey and the financial advisors T. Rowe Price, and placed well ahead of Bain & Co., Caribou Coffee and The Biltmore.
“Colonial Williamsburg is a historical and architectural treasure like no other, but it is our employees – among the world’s most passionate and professional – who bring the museum to life and inspire so many with America’s enduring story,” said Mitchell B. Reiss, Colonial Williamsburg president and CEO. “We are heartened that Forbes’ honor reflects our shared commitment to our guests and to our critical mission of education and preservation.”
Working in partnership with database and consumer research firm Statista, Forbes based its results on anonymous survey interviews of 30,000 employees of 1,800 mid-size organizations nationwide.
Most heavily weighted in Forbes’ analysis: whether respondents would recommend their employer to others. Employees were also asked how factors such as compensation, diversity, pride, atmosphere and opportunities for advancement factored in their sentiments.
