WILLIAMSBURG AT HOME™ to celebrate evolution of American style

The grand opening of WIILIAMSBURG At Home marks an historic occasion. For the first time, customers can see – and purchase – the full range of WILLIAMSBURG home furnishings and decorative accessories in one location. In addition, those in need of the services of the WILLIAMSBURG Design Studio will find the foundation’s talented design team on-site at the new lifestyle store. Grand opening activities will include a VIP invitation-only event Thursday, June 24, a Good Neighbor-only event with 15 percent discounts on all purchases Friday, June 25 and a ribbon cutting and Fifes & Drums presentation Saturday, June 26, when the store opens officially to the public. Opening day guests can register for a special sweepstakes: a free room makeover valued at $15,000.

WILLIAMSBURG At Home will serve as the new headquarters for the full line of WILLIAMSBURG home furnishing categories including furniture, bedding, rugs, lighting fixtures, prints, fabrics and wallpapers. Though the store will retain the core of the reproduction merchandise previously offered at the Craft House at the Williamsburg Inn, it also will expand its offerings to include the new interpretive lifestyle approach to home design. A number of stylish architectural elements from Craft House at the Williamsburg Inn – in particular, several of the beautifully appointed windows and fireplaces – will be relocated to WILLIAMSBURG At Home to enhance the idea of continuity in the midst of what is truly a design evolution.

“Darwin was right – only the fittest survive,” said Tammy Kersey, Colonial Williamsburg’s director of retail and direct marketing. “And one of the reasons the WILLIAMSBURG brand has remained so popular since its creation in the 1930s has been its ability not only to provide excellent quality and timeless style but also to adapt and evolve over time as people’s needs change, including the way they live their lives and decorate their homes.”

The full-service Design Studio is a fundamental component of the new store, and the WILLIAMSBURG design team will offer personal client consultation, full or partial room design, custom bed hangings and window treatments in styles that range from traditional to contemporary. Samples of their work will be showcased in room vignettes throughout the store and clients can meet by appointment with individual designers privately in new office and consult space in the Travis House, located at the corner or Francis and Henry Streets, just one block east from the new store.

“The opening of WILLIAMSBURG At Home is the culmination of a long-term plan to better focus the merchandising and theme concepts in all of Colonial Williamsburg’s Merchants Square stores,” said Jim Easton, Colonial Williamsburg’s vice president of products. “By presenting full category assortments within each of our stores on the square, we hope to create a more guest-friendly shopping experience that is simpler and easier to understand.”

For those wanting to browse at their own pace, WILLIAMSBURG At Home will offer an assortment of presentation books, watches and in-store kiosks offering a “virtual” view of bedding and furniture options that allows customers to “customize” color selections online. Regular in-store programs hosted by Colonial Williamsburg staff will include 30-minute presentations on topics such as preservation, WILLIAMSBURG Style and how to dress a bedroom. Over 50 licensed manufacturers produce more than 4,000 items for the WILLIAMSBURG products program, which operates 26 retail stores, a mail-order catalog and an e-commerce website.
