New director of Corporate and Founding Giving joins CW's Development Division

Sophie Hart has been named to Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving in Colonial Williamsburg’s Development Division. In this position, she will oversee gifts from local, regional and national businesses and foundations.

Hart, who joined the Foundation in 1994, formerly was a manager in the Public Relations Department. Her duties included coordinating public relations for the Products Division and the Collections and Museums Division.

“Sophie brings with her a breadth of knowledge, skill and experience that will make her an asset to the Development Division,” said Linda Dalch Jones, vice president for development. “I look forward to working with Sophie to meet and surpass goals set for corporate and foundation giving.”

Prior to working for Colonial Williamsburg, Hart served in the U.S. Foreign Service in China, Russia, Taiwan and Washington, D.C., for 10 years.

In addition, she serves as an adjunct professor in the College of William and Mary’s Government Department and teaches a class in Chinese and Japanese Politics.

Hart earned a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and French literature from Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Va. She obtained her master’s and doctoral degrees in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

She belongs to the American Association of Museums, the Association of Asian Studies and the International Association of Business Communicators.
