CW releases new educational media

Colonial Williamsburg has released three new educational media, “Encore! Music of the Eighteenth-Century Theatre,” “Mapping Colonial America” and “Gospel of Liberty.” These three media not only enlighten and educate, but they also entertain.

“Encore! Music of the Eighteenth-Century Theatre” offers theatrical and operatic music that one would have heard in a period theater by audiences out for a night on the town. The classic works such as “The Tempest,” “As You Like It” and “Thomas and Sally” are included. There is even an interactive portion where the enthusiast can see the history of the theater and its importance in Colonial Williamsburg’s programming. Lyrics of the songs are available so listeners can sing along. Additionally, playbills, images of performances and performer biographies can be viewed. “Encore! Music of the Eighteenth-Century Theatre” retails for $17.95.

“Mapping Colonial America” is a new interactive CD that allows the user to explore maps from 1587 to 1782. The disc mirrors an online exhibit and offers a zooming capability on maps, side-by-side comparisons to modern maps, timelines of contemporary events, a glossary and a bonus video. “Mapping Colonial America” retails for $9.95.

The docudrama, “Gospel of Liberty,” chronicles Reverend Mr. Samuel Davies’s pursuit of the right to worship according to one’s own convictions. This push by the reverend, with his beliefs grounded in the Great Awakening, shook the Anglican Church in Virginia. Bill Barker, Colonial Williamsburg’s own Thomas Jefferson, is the on-camera narrator. “Gospel of Liberty” retails for $24.95.

These CDs are available through WILLIAMSBURG Booksellers by calling 1-800-446-9240 or by visiting www.williamsburgmarketplace.com.
