Author of "Faiths of Our Fathers" signs books at CW's Visitor Center bookstore

Alf J. Mapp Jr., a world-renowned scholar who has written extensively on early America, will sign copies of his book, “The Faiths of Our Fathers: What America’s Founders Really Believed,” 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 at WILLIAMSBURG Booksellers®, 101B Visitor Center Dr., Williamsburg, Va.

Thomas Jefferson, portrayed by Colonial Williamsburg actor/interpreter Bill Barker, will be on hand between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. Guests attending the signing will be treated to cake and punch in recognition of Mapp’s birthday.

A teacher, author and historian, Mapp was an instructor at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., from 1961-1992 and taught courses on English, journalism, creative writing, history and western civilization. In 1992, he was named Eminent Scholar Emeritus and Louis I. Jaffe Professor Emeritus.

He also has authored several books, including "The Virginia Experiment: The Old Dominion's Role In the Making of America 1607–1781” (May 2006); "Three Golden Ages: Discovering the Creative Secrets of Renaissance Florence, Elizabethan England, and America's Founding" (March 1999); "Thomas Jefferson: Passionate Pilgrim: The Presidency, the Founding of the University and the Private Battle" (November 1993); and “Frock Coats and Epaulets: The Men Who Led the Confederacy” (1982).
