East meets West for WILLIAMSBURG® at High Point
The new home-accent introductions from WILLIAMSBURG licensee Oriental Accent combine a subtle fusion of Asian, European and New World designs that convey an exotic yet elegant style. This unique grouping of home décor pieces includes painted accent furniture. The introductions can be seen at the Oriental Accents showroom at the High Point Furniture Market, March 26–April 1, 2007.
The blue and white faux-tile panels in this collection echo the European tradition of adapting the look of Chinese porcelain to Western tastes. The designs are based on vases of flowers, a popular 18th-century theme, on British delft tiles in the Colonial Williamsburg collections. Ladies of the day gravitated toward the fresh blue and white color palette as well as the iconic architectural details of Chinese pagodas and detailed fretwork. The fashionable new beverage, tea — along with its rituals and tableware — led the revolution for homes, gardens and landscapes being redecorated “in the Chinese taste.” The black and white pieces with chinoiserie scenes and touches of gilt, are reminiscent of the 18th-century passion for “japanned” furniture, made in the imitation of Japanese lacquer work.
The introduction of this East-meets-West collection takes WILLIAMSBURG products by Oriental Accent in a whole new direction. The hand-painted accent furniture, which spans a chest and cabinet to a mirror and lamps, displays the incredible skills of the artisans who created them. Also included in this new line are exciting novelty pieces such as the Pagoda Pet Bed—a must have for every pampered cat or dog.
