THE STONE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
Poster & Lesson Activities
From 1776 to 1814, the original Declaration of Independence was neglected, resulting in serious damage. In 1820, Secretary of State John Quincy Adams commissioned William J. Stone, a Washington D.C.-based engraver, to create an official facsimile of the Declaration. His copperplate engraving was used to produce 201 parchment copies, only 31 of which are known to have survived. Pat and Jerry Epstein of Los Angeles, California, donated a Stone copy of the Declaration to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for public display. This poster is a high-quality reproduction of the Stone Declaration suitable for classroom display or framing. Each poster comes with historical background information and suggested lesson activities. Measures 28x36 inches, $9.95. To order, call 1-800-761-8331.
