Birding on Bassett Trace Nature Trail

Join a guided bird walk on Colonial Williamsburg’s Bassett Trace Nature Trail. Led by an experienced local birder from the Williamsburg Bird Club, it is a must for birders of all experience levels, including those who would like to learn. Diaries and drawings by early naturalists Mark Catesby and William Bartram help us understand the natural world as it was in the 18th century and allow us to compare the status of birds then and now. Learn about local bird life, past and present, as you try to spot various species of local and migrating birds.

The guided walk starts at the trailhead for Bassett Trace Nature Trail in the Griffin Hotel’s Gold Wing parking lot off Francis Street, adjacent to the tennis courts. Insect repellent in season, sturdy walking shoes, and binoculars are recommended. Each tour may extend beyond one hour, and guests may leave as needed.
