Blacksmith

A smith is a metalworker who works metal under a hammer. The Blacksmith works the black metals, iron and steel.

Iron and steel are used to form common utilitarian objects - building hardware such as nails, hinges, locks, and latches; household furnishings such as fireplace equipment, cooking tools, and lighting devices; tools for workshops such as hammers, chisels, axes, clamps, and drills; vehicle hardware such as chains, hooks, bolts, tires, and reinforcing bands; agricultural equipment such as plows, hoes, rakes, harrows, and harvesting knives; and occasionally weapon work, such as swords and firearms.

The work usually involves custom manufacture or repairs, making this trade a service business rather than a manufacturer - the difference being that we do non-standard work as it is ordered, rather than building up an inventory of stock for sale.

Essentially, every member of the community uses iron and steel, so everyone is a potential customer. These metals help to provide shelter, food, warmth, security, transportation, and a means of making a living.
